IT'S DOG WEEK! Furry Feature: Meet Corianne and Bones

Welcome to day two of my vacation, otherwise known as Dog Week. Since my busy schedule of travel and relaxation won't allow much time for blogging, I have decided to do seven days of Furry Features! I'm excited to introduce you to all these runners and their great running buddies!

Seven features in seven days! Seven furry faces, seven runners, and (pulls out the calculator) 28 paws!

Let's meet our second Friday furry feature of the week.

Hi, Corianne. Tell us a little bit about your favorite running partner.
Her name is Bones. She's a 90 pound black lab who is 7 years old. Her longest run ever was 8 miles. We adopted her from a pet rescue when she was 8 weeks old.

Where is your favorite place to run with your pooch?
Just about anywhere, and I'm sure Bones would agree with me. She seems to enjoy trail running over concrete, though so when she's with me I try to stick to local parks and trails.

Tell us about a running moment that made you proud!
I'd have to say completing my first 5k race years ago was one of my proudest, most pure running moments because it was such an accomplishment for me - not just the 5k, but overcoming medical issues along with it and overcoming fear of the unknown when showing up for that first race. I've done dozens of 5ks, 10ks, a few half marathons and run in 2 marathons and all of it now is just competing with myself to get better and overcome more - it never really feels like an accomplishment anymore. :-)

What important running (or life) lesson can we learn from our dogs?
Be crazy, mad, joyful when you can be - go all out and enjoy every minute of what you can. Investigate what sparks your curiosity. Stay near to people you love. Give yourself to what you're doing 100% and don't worry how stupid you might look. Rest will come later and you'll have plenty of time to do it.

Do you want to tell us anything else about you or running with your dog?
This year, Bones will continue joining me for one of my training runs each week. (She's not able to do all of them anymore)

I'm doing a half marathon on May 18th in Greensboro, NC to benefit JDRF and then I will be training for another half marathon in Charlotte, NC with Isabella's Action Team to benefit the Isabella Santos Foundation and help bring an end to neuroblastoma.
