The Things I've Learned from the #Blogember Blog Challenge (Midway Check In)

Today is November 18th and I've made it more than half way on this blog every day in November challenge! I've been really been enjoying it. The pace moves so quickly, no sooner than I publish and promote a blog, I am working on the next one. It has kept me busy for sure!

It has been interesting following the writing prompts instead of coming up with ideas on my own. It is good and bad. The good part is that coming up with the idea is the hard part for me. Once I have an idea, the blog usually flows very easily. The downside is that a lot of the topics are things I would never usually blog about, because they are off-topic, but mainly because I assume that no one cares.

When I write a blog, I try to share the things that my experiences, research, training, (or mistakes) have taught me, so that you can gain some benefit from it. I am no expert by any means, but I work hard to write about things that you might care to read. If I write a recap of my experience at a mud run or a color run, I will be sure to include tips and tricks in case you want to run one too. I try to make it about you and not all about me.

The blogs that have picked up the most traction in this challenge are the ones that are most typical to the kinds of blogs I usually write, like Run Smarter with Your Smart Phone, or Five Best Places to Buy Running Gear Online. Then there were writing prompts that I just didn't know how I was going to make work, but ended up being the ones that I was most proud of in the end, like my 6 word memoir post. On the other hand, off-topic blogs that are mostly about me, like 3 Albums to Take on a Deserted Island, or Stories From Elementary School just don't get the kind of page views that are typical for this blog. Why? Because it is all about me.

I am not complaining. I totally understand and I am super grateful that A Happy Girl is hosting this challenge and took care of the hard part of coming up all the writing ideas! While the page views may be lower than usual on some of my daily posts, my average monthly page views have increased by 50% over last month (important to note that I hadn't blogged hardly at all in October so the numbers were starting from a lower than usual point). Some of the individual posts may have not garnered large page views, but there has been more traffic pointed to my blog in general. I don't think this is a coincidence.

While this has been really fun, and I have enjoyed writing some off-topic self-indulgent posts, when this challenge is over, I will go back to the way I usually write. I think it definitely opened my mind to new ideas, new blogs to follow, and got the creative juices flowing (especially after an extended slump). Maybe I will try to do this sort of thing once a year. Heck, maybe I will even host my own challenge one day, I bet I could come up with some kick-butt writing prompts.

November 18: Happiest moment of your life

With that being said, let me follow today's writing prompt and tell you about the happiest moment of my life. As if you care. :)

My life is blessed with more happy moments than I can count, so if I have to narrow it down to just one, I'd have to say it was the moment that I was standing on the beach in La Jolla, California exchanging vows with my husband in August of 2005.

I didn't expect that I would be so emotional that day in La Jolla, CA.
Hubby can always make me laugh.
L is for left (or losers who dont know their right from left).
Happily ever after.

  5. The challenge is neat, I don't know how I'd do with the forced writing since I"m more sporadic, but having a greater range of topics might be good for me to have my writing branch out. Gorgeous pics of your wedding!
