Throwback Thursday: Why I am No Longer Eating Clean

Howdy. Yes, I live in Texas. We say howdy here. Just kidding. Welcome to another installment of Throwback Thursday. This is a once-monthly post where I share a blog entry from the olden days (or last year) that you might have missed the first time around. 

I also take this opportunity to share a throwback picture so you can either laugh at with me at my big hair in the 80's and 90's, or gush at how freakin' adorable I was when I was a toddler. This week, I went with gush.

I read an awesome post this week from The T-Rex Runner called, "I eat Dirty, and I like it."  It is a really great post about eating what you want and feeling no-guilt about your choices, even if everyone in your Facebook feed is posting their latest paleo recipes, and all the dinner plate pics on Instagram are of vegan, gluten-free fare. The problem, she explains, is not that someone chooses to eat a certain way, it is the judgement against those who do not. I'll quote from her post:
"So y’all, eat clean if you want. Be paleo. Don’t eat sugar by choice (GOD, WHY?). Go vegan. Only eat fish and things that are purple. I personally don’t care. But if you need me, I’ll be the girl with a craft beer in one hand and a cheeseburger in the other after every marathon, so don’t feel bad if you’re right there with me."
It sort of reminded me of a post I wrote called Why I am No Longer Eating Clean, so I was inspired to share it again for this month's throwback Thursday. My post was about not wanting to push my dietary restrictions (of the time) onto my readers (or anyone, really). I felt that when I once published a list of my good and bad foods, that I made a big mistake because frankly, everyone is different. There are no good and bad foods that apply to everyone. What is good for me, may be bad for you.  What I consider bad for me, might be the highlight of your diet, and that is just fine.

    I don't like food all.
    Vegan, vegetarian, paleo, clean, whatever! I just don't think it's necessary, kind of like the "jocks" the "nerds" the "in crowd" in high doesn't change anything.

    everyone has different eating preferences and I don't get why we need to put labels on things. Some days I eat meat and some days I dont... does that mean that I am a vegetarian one day and not the next? Putting labels also puts the idea out there that one "label" is better than another. everyone eats or does not eat things for different reasons. No need to force opinions on others right?

I have a very good friend who's Vegan...and I'm always apologizing to her when I heat up "flesh" in the microwave at work :/ I too eat as close to the natural product as I possibly can, but like you, if I let myself, I can very quickly become obsessive so I try to let myself off the hook whenever really want. Thanks for recommending TRex...I'm following her now as well :)
