A Handana Review, a Limerick, and a Giveaway!

Disclosure: I was provided a Handana free of charge for the purpose of a blog review and giveaway. I was not compensated in any other way. All opinions are my own, and I am not obligated to give it a positive review.

"There once was a girl from Savanna

Whose sweat would soak her bandana.

She couldn’t keep dry,

Sweat blinded her eyes,

Until she discovered Handana!"

If you a regular reader of my blog, you might have noticed that I like to write silly poems. I am not actually from Savanna, but if I changed the words to "There once was a girl from Pittsburgh," it wouldn't quite work out the same. At least I didn't write one about Nantucket.

It's summer in Texas. It's hot here, y'all. I don't actually ever say y'all, I'm from Pittsburgh, remember? We say Yinz. As you may know, I am training for the Dallas marathon in December. Marathon training in the Texas heat has many challenges and sweat tops the list. I think I sweat more than normal people, or maybe normal people don't run when it is over 90 degrees outside, but I literally drip with salty sweat and it causes a real problem. I have enough things burning on those hot runs, my eyes don't need to be one of them.

A running coach in my training group suggested carrying a small towel to wipe the sweat. What? Maybe it is just me, but I need to run hands-free. When I see people running with their water bottles, their keys, or holding their iPod, I always feel sorry for them. I do not want to even carry a rag. I don't want to carry anything in my hands. I certainly don't need a towel flopping around.

Of course, there are other solutions to this problem. But is this really a solution? I think not.

1980 called, it wants it's headband back.

Then Bret Michaels called, he wants his bandana back.

Maybe I am vain, but bandanas and sweat bands on my head are just not for me. Forgive me for wanting to be more fashionable than that. This is why I was excited to learn about Handana! It is a sweatband that you wear on your hand. It is pink (actually it comes in a lot of colors)! I can look cute and wipe my sweat? I love this adorable, functional, fitness fashion accessory for my runs! It is made of soft, durable fabric, so I can easily wipe away the sweat (and nasal drip) as I run.

I tried it for the first time at my Dallas marathon training group run. It was hot out there! The Handana was comfortable and light weight, I almost forgot it was there at first. It was handy (yeah, I think I'm funny) for wiping my sweat for those first few miles. After mile five it got too wet and I had to take it off.  I would recommend it for shorter runs around 3-5 miles and I think it would be perfect for things like Yoga. You know, when the sweat is dripping off your forehead onto your Yoga mat, making it super slick and your hands slide out from out from underneath you while you are attempting to do a Downward Dog? What? That can't just be me.

I think the thing I like most about Handana, is the inspiring story behind the creator, Katie Niemeyer. Her true passion behind the product is to spread awareness about a rare disease that she survived, called SJS.
SJS stands for Stevens Johnson Syndrome, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome is a rare, but serious condition in which the skin and mucous membranes have a severe reaction to a medication or infection. If you’d like to learn more about SJS and Katie Niemeyer's story and how this disease inspired the creation of the Handana, please click here to read more.

"Our manifesto is to inspire others to cross their finish line no matter where it is in life and to empower others along the way." - Katie Niemeyer.

  6. I carry a rag or end up using the bottom edge of my shirt to wipe my face. Sometimes I wonder if there's anything in my head other than water. Appreciate the opportunity to win a handana!

Oh yea, the limerick was cute (one of my fave poetry forms when I'm feeling silly).
