Pardon My Streaking! Runner's World Summer Run Streak 2013

Pin this image if you are doing this too!

It is Run Streak time again! A run streak is when you commit to running at least one mile every single day over a period of time. Runner's World is hosting a Summer Run Streak challenge from Memorial Day until Independence Day. It is a great way to begin a good habit. After you get in the routine of lacing up those shoes every single day, it becomes second nature. Sometimes the hardest part is getting out the door. The run streak is a great motivator to just get out there.

Of course some days I will run more than one mile and to avoid any pitfalls (like injury, over training or burnout) I will allow myself to walk the one mile if it is a rest and recovery day.  The idea is to put in at least one mile every single day, starting on Memorial Day (Monday, 5/27) and ending on Independence Day (Thursday, 7/4). That's 39 consecutive days of running.

The fun part is that you can #hashtag (is this a verb now?) #RWRunstreak on Twitter and Instagram to declare your acomplishment each day for support and motivation from the other runners who are participating. Knowing that I have to report in my daily mile(s) helps me stay on track.

You can read more about the Runner's World Summer run streak here.

There are no rules. Are you not a runner but would like to become more active? How about participating the streak by walking one mile each day? Anyone can join in on the fun. Your only commitment is a mile a day!

It starts Monday! Who is doing this with me? Are you in? Tell me in the comments.

Just wanted to share what I'm doing with my "streaking". This is a post I posted on FB and emailed to friends and family:

Day 17 of the Runners World running streak! But I want to make it more than running because I'm neurotic and obsessive I've read how runners tend to run for reasons beyond themselves; thus, so many marathons are run in the merit of various charities. So... please "sponsor" my neurotocism. I commit to running at least a mile a day through Independence Day (started this craziness on Memorial Day). At the end of this "streak," I ask you to make a donation - $1, $5, $10... whatever you can give, but here's the twist. Give to a charity you wouldn't normally give to. Whatever you want, but something "different" ... Chabad or the Boys & Girls Club or the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. And let me know. It'll keep me motivated. And kudos to all of us!!!
