12 Races in 2012 in Pictures

My 2012 resolution  was to run one race every month in 2012.  I actually ended up running 13 because I ran two races in November, but who’s counting.  Wait, I am.

Having a monthly goal was a great way to stay motivated throughout the year.  No matter what my level of motivation was over the last 12 months, it rose and fell periodically, I always knew I had a race to run.  It was fun planning and choosing my races for the upcoming months.  I have seen other people commit to running 12 half marathons in 2012, but I decided to vary my race distances.  This helped keep it fun and also helped my pocketbook, as half marathons can be expensive.   All of my races were official organized races, although I did run a few virtual races, which I did not include in my count.

What I learned is having a monthly plan and goal kept me going all year.  Having a manageable goal of one race a month gave me something to look forward to each month.  I may use this same technique for my 2013 goals.  Instead of, “Read more things that are not on the internet,”  how about “Read one actual book a month.”   2013 New year Resolutions coming soon.

My races were fun.  I got some new race t-shirts, earned a few new PR’s, and even scored a few more half marathon finishers medals.  All in all,  it was a great year of racing.   I am looking forward to doing 13 in 2013.

  • Favorite race:  The Huntington Beach Surf City Half Marathon because it was my first destination race and a vacation with my best friend.
  • Most rewarding race: The Dallas Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon because it was my half marathon PR and the first time I ran a sub 2 hour half.
  • Most fun race: The Dirty Girl Mud Run.
  • Hardest race: The San Antonio Rock 'n Roll Half because I was sick and ran it on less than four hours sleep.  If it wasn't for my supportive BFF cheering me on from the sidelines, I may not have made it.
  • The Fire & Ice Race Series 10K in August was the first time I ever placed first in my division, (it was a very small race.)
Instead of boring you with all the details, I thought I would share my year of races in pictures. If you need reading material for when you can't sleep, you can click on the race name link to read my recaps.

  6. :) Hi Lea,
I have the Tinkerbell 1/2 in Jan (a repeat of this year) and the SF Diva 1/2 in May (also a repeat). That's it so far...probably some 5 and 10k runs. We are moving just after Christmas and it will be a new area to find races in.

Ran my first relay, which was super fun and ran my first half marathon which was beyond awesome. I'm registered for a half in Feb., a full in May and looking forward to finding some 5's, 10's and a mud run to top off the year. Keep up the great running in 2013 Lea!

  10. Wow you had a great racing year!! Nice work! So far I have done 10 official races and several virtuals. Only 6 half's in the 12 in 2012 goal. OOps:0 I haven't signed up for a single race for 2013. Still thinking. Although I did sign up for the Big Climb which I do every year:)
