The Dream
I walk in the room and stop dead in my tracks
This seems like reality, but I know the facts
My vision is clear, my head is on straight
I want to hug her, but I must hesitate
She looks like my friend, but I know it can't be
'Cause my dear friend left this world much too early
I inquire around with my obvious confusion
Who is this girl? Is she merely an illusion?
“She is your friends sister” announces a man with this news
“Their similar appearance has got you confused”
But I knew my friend and my heart was now aching
Because her smile and personality could not be mistaken
I still have so much that I needed to say
But what if I get closer, and she fades away?
My friend turns to me, as if reading my thoughts
And spoke these words that should always be taught
“Don’t let your fear be the guide of your path
Live life to its fullest, with joy, without wrath”
“Be thankful and positive in all you receive
Have faith, be patient and just believe”
“Remember our fun and the infectious laughter
and know in eternity, I live happily ever after”

It was a pleasure to know you Jen. Your friendship as a teenager helped shape the person I am today.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Such a sweet poem. It's crazy how a dream can shake us so much and unleash memories. It's been over 10 years since my friend passed and still he finds his way into my dreams every so often.
